Nicholas joined the firm in 2014, was named a partner in February of 2018, and is a co-managing partner of the firm. His practice is focused on business transactions, real estate and secured lending, creditor’s rights, and commercial matters. His expertise includes advising and assisting clients in buying and selling businesses, commercial and residential real estate transactions, bank financing, mergers, acquisitions, other corporate contracts and agreements, and enforcement of the rights of condominium associations. Examples of some of Nicholas’ recent, notable client successes include:

  • Represented the seller of a specialty printing business in the negotiation and closing of the sale of the company assets to another locally-based art supplies manufacturer.

  • Represented a local developer in the acquisition of a long-vacant industrial property for preservation and redevelopment into mixed use condominiums, including the closing of construction financing and the negotiation of necessary reciprocal easements with the municipality for the project.

  • Assisted an established craft brewery in the acquisition and financing of a new industrial building to enable their operations to expand.

  • Assisted a Hampshire County veterinarian in acquiring the successful and established veterinary clinic business from her employer, including the negotiation of seller financing.

  • On behalf of a locally owned local commercial radio station, negotiated an extension of a broadcast tower lease on favorable terms with the tower’s owner, an aggressive, national media company seeking to terminate the lease.

  • Represented a local entrepreneur in closing a multi-million dollar purchase and financing of a local self-storage business and the associated real estate.

  • In collaboration with the firm’s other corporate lawyers, represented core investors in forming a new company and a $5.5 million private offering of sale of membership interests to other investor owners to purchase and relocate an existing minor league hockey franchise to the local area.

Prior to joining Fierst Bloomberg Ohm LLP, Nicholas practiced with firms in Eastern and Western Massachusetts, including with the Springfield office of a large, Boston-based firm.  His prior experience, in addition to his current practice areas, included bankruptcy, workouts and creditor’s rights, landlord/tenant issues, and civil litigation, including the defense of professional malpractice and tort claims in state, federal and appellate courts.

Nicholas is a Brooklyn, New York native with long-standing family roots in the Northampton area. He received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin/Madison, and his J.D. from Boston University School of Law. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and Rhode Island (inactive) and before the U.S. Tax Court. He is a member of the Real Estate Bar Association of Massachusetts (REBA) and serves on the Economic Development Committee of the Northampton Chamber of Commerce.
